Acne Treatment and
Appointment Guide
As you go through the process of achieving clear skin you may need to come in for
office treatments every few weeks. (If your skin needs pre-treatment prep,
then you may need to come in weekly for a short time.) The reasons
for having office treatments are four-fold:
1.
For
exfoliating the skin so that home-care products can penetrate the
pore more easily.
2.
For
hydrating the skin so that the skin is receptive to your home-care
regimen. The
products may dry out the skin somewhat
as you
are getting used
to them.
3.
For
treating existing acne impactions.
4.
For
killing acne bacteria inside the pore.
Each
acne
treatment has a specific focus for what the skin needs at the time
of treatment. After the initial visit, treatments take
approximately 45 min. to 1 hr. to complete. Your
skin will be analyzed at the beginning of every treatment to assess
which treatment will serve you best.
During the office visit we
assess your
home care regimen. We may change how you use your home
care to make sure you stay ahead of your acne's ability to adapt to
products. We also want to check and make sure that your home care is
not too strong and irritating. We want to achieve that balance
between getting you clear as fast as possible without irritating and
dehydrating your skin.
Treatments are typically performed until your
skin clears. Usually that takes anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks, or a
little longer for non-inflammatory type adult or body acne.
Diet coaching
- In addition to office treatments and home care monitoring, consideration is given to what may be
causing your breakouts, such as food sensitivities,
stress or hormonal factors. Nutritional issues have been
shown to affect acne in negative and also positive ways. (For
example, there is new research regarding bio-identical hormones in
cow’s milk and humans.) Therefore, it is essential that once
your skin is cleared to try and pinpoint ways to keep it that way.
Products
- Acne home care
products are proprietary formulations that are reasonably priced at
smaller 1 oz sizes (or less) to keep it affordable while the skin is adapting
to the program. Longer use products are in economical larger sizes
(such as cleansers & scrubs).
Although there are no contracts to sign, it is
imperative for your success that you be extremely serious regarding
your treatments and home care regime! For this program to be
effective, you must show up for the office treatments and rigidly
follow the home care guidelines. The time and money you spend on
the program is your investment in your skin!
